Group Class vs Private Lessons

When you swim with Tom’s our top goal is to provide the best learning environment for every child individually. Group lessons are a wonderful option for a long term swim goal. A lot of children do great when they see peers trying and working on the same skills as them! We have a 5 kid limit for our group classes to ensure that each child can receive one on one time. Private lessons are a great option for those looking for a more personalized lesson or for those who are first time swimmers. This provides an entire 30 minute one on one lesson to best meet your swimming needs! If you have any further questions or need help deciding what will be best for your kiddo please call (512) 451-3425 or email: sarah@tomsscuba.com

We have three scheduling options for the group classes during the spring. The weekday classes are two days a week for four weeks. You can choose either Mondays & Wednesdays, or Tuesdays & Thursdays. We also offer a one day a week class held on Sunday and Saturday mornings. Each class is 30 minutes long. Sometimes parents are unsure whether or not to start swim lessons for their youngsters. Well now is the time! The longer you wait, the more difficult it is for your child to develop their comfort in the water. Along with swim skills, it is imperative that you child begins to learn about water safety as well.

Prices: Weekdays- $219 , Saturday - $119 , Sunday- $239

If you have a child that is fearful or hesitant of the water, no worries. Our team of well trained teachers can handle anything! Seriously! It is usually harder on nervous parents than it is on the kids. We would like to introduce the fearful children to lessons in a more intimate setting. It is important that we give you the best experience possible, and we will do everything possible to ensure that.

Preschool Level 1

Required Skills: Children entering this level need no experience. This class is open to all beginner swimmers.

Goals for Class:

  • Learn water safety: floating, listening, entering/exiting water, etc.
  • Learn to swim on front, back and underwater.
  • Encourages motor, social, emotional and language development.

Upon completion of this level, your child will be able to swim 5 feet unassisted on front and back, demonstrate water safety skills, as well as show their new found comfort and confidence in the water.

How fast will my child learn? Parents must also keep realistic expectations of their child’s progression in class. Every child moves and his/her own pace. This is how they build the appropriate relationship with the water. It’s important to celebrate what looks like small victories i.e. blowing bubbles, kicking on their own, submersions, etc. Though it might look like small progress to you, those are big moments in the learn-to-swim world!

Preschool Level 2

Required Skills: Child must be able to swim at least 5 feet unassisted on front and back with rudimentary strokes, and be comfortable jumping in the water.

Goals for Class:

  • Learn coordination of arm and leg movements, to improve stroke technique on front, back and underwater.
  • Learn diving and deep water skills.

Upon completion of this level, your child will be able to swim freestyle and backstroke 15 – 30 ft unassisted and demonstrate rhythmic breathing, water safety skills, as well as show their comfort and confidence in deep water.
In this class your child will be learning proper stroke and breathing techniques. We teach a method of skill building with the use of stroke drills and swim aids so each stroke becomes more defined. Most children will take multiple sessions in level 2 before they are able to master all the skills. Also, we will work on deep water comfort as well as diving in this level.
