Who this trip is for

Fiji Rewards Divers Who Arrive Ready.

Experienced diver

Solid fundamentals, comfortable in current

Bligh Waters is dynamic. Currents are part of what makes it spectacular — they bring in the pelagic life and keep the reefs healthy. Divers with strong buoyancy and comfort in moving water will get the most from every dive.

CE-certified diver

Where continuing education pays off

Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, and boat diving experience all translate directly to better dives in Fiji. If you've been building your skills for a destination worth diving, this is that destination.

Thanksgiving traveler

The trip worth saving Thanksgiving for

Tom's flagship trip runs Thanksgiving week every year. Fiji is far from Austin in the best possible way — a genuine expedition to the other side of the world, organized so you can focus entirely on the experience.

What to expect

Bligh Waters. The Soft Coral Capital of the World.

Bligh Waters earned its reputation across decades of diving by serious underwater photographers, marine biologists, and experienced divers who came back and kept talking about it. The soft coral density — sea fans, gorgonians, and massive coral heads covered in color — is the kind of thing that changes what you think a reef looks like. Visibility is consistently strong. Pelagic life follows the currents.

Volivoli Beach Resort sits on the Rakiraki Peninsula at the northern tip of Viti Levu, which puts it at the gateway to Bligh Waters. The resort runs its own professional dive operation with experienced local guides who know the sites. Days are structured around morning and afternoon boat dives, with the resort's oceanfront setting and on-site dining filling the time between.

This trip is Tom’s flagship international destination for a reason. It is not a beginner trip and it is not a casual beach vacation with some diving attached. It is a dedicated dive expedition to one of the world’s genuinely great underwater destinations, organized for divers who are ready to make the most of it.

Why travel with Tom’s

Getting to Fiji Is the Easy Part. Getting There Ready Is the Difference.

Fiji rewards preparation. Divers who arrive with strong buoyancy, current experience, and boat diving confidence get exponentially more from Bligh Waters than those who don’t. Tom’s trips are built around that standard — the group arrives ready, and the diving reflects it.

Prepared group

Travel with divers who are ready for Fiji

Bligh Waters diving is dynamic and rewards strong fundamentals. Tom's groups are assembled around a common standard of preparation. That changes every dive on the trip.

Low friction

Organized from Austin to Volivoli

Fiji requires planning. Tom's handles the coordination — accommodation, dive scheduling, transfers, and logistics — so you arrive focused on diving rather than managing the trip.

Austin Aquanauts

Tom’s flagship trip, run through the club

This trip runs through the Austin Aquanauts. Members get early access. Not a member? The trip is open to all, and Fiji is the kind of experience that brings divers into the community for good.

In business since 1982

Tom’s has been doing this for decades

The planning behind a trip to Fiji is considerable. Tom's has forty-plus years of running dive travel from Austin. The logistics work because the experience behind them is real.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this trip suitable for newer divers?

Fiji's diving is dynamic and best suited to divers who are comfortable with boat diving and current. We recommend solid buoyancy control, boat diving experience, and at least some continuing education before this trip. If you're building toward Fiji, Bonaire or Grand Cayman are excellent starting points. Bonaire →

What courses should I do before Fiji?

Perfect Buoyancy and Navigation are the most directly applicable. Both improve your diving in current and on complex sites. Advanced Open Water and Diver Stress & Rescue are also worth completing before a remote international trip. Perfect Buoyancy →

What is the flight gateway for Fiji?

Fiji's main international airport is Nadi International (NAN) on Viti Levu. Most US routes connect through Los Angeles or San Francisco. Airfare is not included. Book early — seats to Fiji from Texas can be limited, especially around Thanksgiving.

How physically demanding is the diving?

Bligh Waters involves boat diving and can involve current. Entry and exit is from a dive boat. Some sites require drift diving skills or comfort swimming in moving water. It is not technical diving, but it is not passive either. Divers who are physically comfortable in the water will find it manageable and rewarding.

Is dive and travel insurance required?

Strongly recommended for all Tom's trips, and especially for a remote international destination like Fiji. Dive accident insurance, trip cancellation insurance, and travel medical coverage are all worth obtaining before you book.
