Understanding Regulators & Diver Preparedness

Welcome to our first Dive Ready event, an education-first program that prioritizes learning and practical understanding over sales or promotion.  You will always leave with clear, useful information you can apply right away.

We’ll break down how scuba regulators work, why equipment choices matter underwater, and how Stress & Rescue training supports more confident, prepared diving. With Mares and SSI representatives on hand, the evening connects equipment-knowledge, modern regulator technology, and real-world diver readiness into one cohesive learning experience.

What This Night Is About

Your regulator is your primary life-support system underwater, but many divers never get a clear understanding of what’s happening with each breath. We’ll start by building a solid foundation of how regulators work, how pressure is managed and delivered, and how key design and setup choices by the manufacturers can affect breathing effort and performance in real-world conditions.

Once those fundamentals are in place, we’ll take a closer look at the Mares Planet 88X and connect the technology to what you feel underwater. Instead of reviewing specs in isolation, we’ll focus on how modern regulator design supports real-world diving demands with insight from both the manufacturer and training perspectives.

Diver Preparedness and Stress & Rescue Training

Being prepared goes beyond understanding your equipment. That’s why we’ll highlight Stress & Rescue training and the critical role it plays in diver preparedness. We’ll cover how stress affects awareness and decision-making, why early recognition of issues matters, and how training helps divers respond more calmly and effectively when things don’t go as planned.

How the Evening Works

Our new Dive Ready programs follow a consistent, engaging format: we start with a focused teaching segment, move into applied discussion and real-world context (including current technology), and wrap up with open Q&A. Throughout the night, we are joined by Mares and SSI representatives to add depth, clarity, and perspective.

Who Should Attend

This event is ideal for certified divers who want a clearer understanding of their equipment, divers researching future gear decisions, instructors and dive professionals, and anyone who enjoys learning how diving systems really work.

Continue the Experience — Planet 88X Demo Day

Want to put the concepts into practice? Join us the following day (Saturday) at Lake Travis for the Mares Planet 88X Demo Day. This in-water experience helps you connect what you learned to real-world performance during actual dives.
