Tom’s Dive Team and the Austin Aquanauts run dive events, pool nights, and socials all year long, right here in Central Texas. Open to every certified diver in Austin, member or not. No pressure, no sales pitch, just people who like being in the water.
You Don’t Need an Invitation. You Need a Wetsuit, maybe.
Getting certified is the beginning, not the finish line. The divers who stick with the sport are usually the ones who found a group to do it with. That’s what the Tom's Dive Team, based out of Tom’s Dive & Swim, have been building since 2013: a standing calendar of local dives, day trips, and socials that give Austin divers a reason to get wet on a regular Wednesday, not just once a year on vacation.
Open to every certified diver, member or not.
You do not have to join anything to show up. Most events welcome non-members at a slightly higher price. Come see what the club is about before you decide.
Meet people who already dive the way you do.
Solo divers, couples, and longtime buddy teams all show up to the same events. It’s an easy way to find a regular dive partner without having to go to social media.

Lake travis dive parks, a sculpture-filled quarry near Lake Jackson, a wreck-strewn spring-fed lake near Terrell, a wreck-packed training park in Athens, and twin spring-fed quarries near Huntsville: Central Texas has more to see underwater than most people realize.
Socials, sales, and the season finale.
Not every event requires a tank. The club also runs an annual summer clearance sale and a genuinely strange (and popular) underwater pumpkin carving contest every fall.
Not Every Event Is a Dive Trip.
The calendar mixes three kinds of events: recurring local dives you can drop into most weeks, day-trip dives to lakes and quarries outside Austin a few times a year, and social events that don’t require gear at all. Each event card below tells you which kind you’re looking at, so you know what to bring.

Bubble Hour Wednesday Dives
The easiest way to get regular dives in without planning a trip. Show up after work, get wet at a familiar local site, and catch up with the club. Beginner-friendly.
Mammoth Lake Dive
Over 60 acres of freshwater lake with training platforms, buses, train cars, a fire truck, a C-130 cargo plane, and yes, a mammoth sculpture. A full day of exploration diving with a grill-out lunch included.
Scuba Ranch Dive
A spring-fed quarry with multiple wrecks and a sunken Cessna, plus a resident population of freshwater jellyfish (non-stinging, and genuinely fun to swim through). Lunch included.
Summer Clearance Pre-Sale & Social
Members get first access to Tom’s summer clearance sale before it opens to the public, with savings of 20 to 50% on gear. No diving required, just show up with your membership.
Season Finale: Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest
Exactly what it sounds like. Bring your own pumpkin, carve it underwater with a blunt-tipped knife, and compete for Best, Spookiest, and the beloved “Oh, Good Try” award. The unofficial highlight of the Aquanauts’ year.
Membership Gets You Early Access. Showing Up Doesn’t Require It.
The Austin Aquanauts is the dive community based out of Tom’s, established in 2013. Members get member pricing on events, first access to some trips and socials, and a say in what the club plans next. Non-members are welcome at nearly every event listed here, which is a good way to try the club out before joining.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Most events, including Bubble Hour, Mammoth Lake, Scuba Ranch, and the pumpkin carving contest, are open to any certified diver. Members generally pay a lower price, and a few events (like the summer clearance pre-sale and social) are member-only. Check the specific event page for details.
Current membership pricing and benefits are kept up to date on the Austin Aquanauts site, since they can change. You can join online or ask about it at Tom’s.
Open Water Diver certification (SSI, PADI, NAUI, or equivalent) is the general expectation for lake and quarry dives like Mammoth Lake and Scuba Ranch. Bubble Hour is generally beginner-friendly. Check the specific event page for anything additional, and if you’re not sure your certification level fits, call Tom’s before you sign up.
Bring what you have. If you’re missing anything, Tom’s rents full gear sets and can help you get outfitted before any event. Ask when you RSVP.

No. Bubble Hour and the pumpkin carving contest are local, at Mansfield Dam Park. Mammoth Lake (near Lake Jackson) and Scuba Ranch (near Terrell) are day trips a couple of hours outside Austin. Each event page lists the exact location.
