Dominica - Nov 2026

Every Caribbean island promises world-class diving. Dominica actually delivers it.

Volcanic, dramatic, and largely undeveloped — which is exactly why its reefs are in the condition they are. You will share the water with sperm whales, dive walls that drop into black water, and surface in a place that most Caribbean trips simply cannot offer. Thanksgiving week, Fort Young Hotel.

Dominica Is Not a Beach Resort. That Is the Point.

Known as the Nature Isle, Dominica is volcanic, dramatic, and largely undeveloped — which is exactly why its reefs are in the condition they are. You will share the water with sperm whales, dive walls that drop into black water, and surface in the kind of place most Caribbean trips simply cannot offer. This is a trip for divers who want more than a pool chair and a shallow reef.

Seven nights at Fort Young Hotel, five days of two-tank boat diving, unlimited shore diving, whale watching, a guided tour of Trafalgar Falls and Titou Gorge, and a $50 resort credit per person. $2,650 per person (double occupancy). Open Water certification required · 20+ logged dives recommended. Email travel@tomsscuba.com or call (512) 451-3425.

Who this trip is for

Dominica Is for Divers Who Want Something Different.

Experience matters

Divers with some dives behind them

Dominica's diving rewards strong buoyancy and comfort in current. It's suited to divers with 20 or more logged dives who are confident in open water conditions. Not a course destination — a diving destination.

Nature traveler

Above the water matters as much as below

Rainforests, volcanic hot springs, whale watching, and waterfalls. Dominica is as extraordinary above the surface as below it. This trip is for divers who want a full destination, not just a dive package.

Thanksgiving traveler

A week worth leaving home for

Thanksgiving week is a natural break for a dive trip. Dominica offers a genuine escape — warm water, dramatic terrain, and a pace that is impossible to replicate in Austin in November.

What to expect

Five Days of Serious Diving in a Place That Earns Its Reputation.

Dominica's dive sites are volcanic in character — walls, pinnacles, and underwater features shaped by geology rather than the flat reef profiles common across the Caribbean. Visibility is strong. Marine life density is high. And the sperm whales that frequent Dominican waters are a legitimate encounter, not a chance sighting.

Fort Young Hotel sits on the waterfront in Roseau, the capital. Diving is organized through the hotel's dive operation. Days are structured around morning and afternoon boat dives, with shore diving available in between. The guided excursions to Trafalgar Falls and Titou Gorge give you the island above the water, which is as dramatic as anything below it.

This trip rewards divers who are comfortable in open water and confident in current. If your buoyancy is solid and you have some dives behind you, Dominica will show you what Caribbean diving can be at its best.

Why travel with Tom’s

Dominica With a Group Who Is Ready for It.

The divers who get the most from Dominica are the ones who arrived prepared. Tom’s trips are organized around that idea: the group shares a common standard of preparation, the logistics are handled before you land, and the trip runs because everyone involved is ready to dive.

Prepared group

Travel with divers who are ready for this

Dominica is not an easy destination to enjoy with an unprepared buddy. Tom's trips attract divers who have done the preparation. That changes every dive on the trip.

Everything organized

Logistics removed before you arrive

Transfers, diving, excursions, and accommodation are all coordinated. You arrive and dive. The friction that can make international travel exhausting is largely eliminated.

Austin Aquanauts

Part of a community that travels together

Tom's trips run through the Austin Aquanauts. Members get early access and benefits. Not a member yet? Trips are open to all, and the community is a genuine part of what makes these trips work.

In business since 1982

Tom’s has been planning trips for decades

The trip is organized, the expectations are clear, and you know what you are getting. That trust is built over forty-plus years of doing this in Austin.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dominica suitable for newer divers?

Dominica's diving involves current, varying conditions, and open water environments. We recommend 20 or more logged dives and solid buoyancy before this trip. If you're recently certified and interested in diving with Tom's, Bonaire is a better starting point. Bonaire trip →

What is the flight gateway for Dominica?

Dominica's airport code is DOM. Most flights route through Puerto Rico (SJU), Barbados (BGI), or Antigua (ANU). Airfare is not included. Tom's recommends booking flights as soon as your spot is confirmed, as routing to Dominica can be limited.

Is there whale watching on every trip?

Dominica is one of the few places in the world with year-round resident sperm whale populations. Whale watching is included as an excursion, though actual sightings depend on conditions and animal behavior. November is generally a reliable month for encounters.

Is dive and travel insurance required?

Dive accident insurance and trip cancellation insurance are strongly recommended for all Tom's trips, and especially for international travel. Neither is included in the package price.

Should I do any courses before this trip?

Perfect Buoyancy and Navigation are the courses that most directly improve the Dominica experience. Strong buoyancy makes dynamic diving less tiring. Navigation helps on sites where the terrain is complex. Perfect Buoyancy →
